Open position
Senior Software Engineer (Build and DevOps)
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own the CI/CD, release, and artifact pipeline behind AMP. You will build the system that takes code from a pull request to a signed, tested artifact running in a customer facility.
AMP ships a cloud platform, an on-robot runtime, and a third-party SDK on independent release cadences.
You will set the engineering practices the rest of the organization builds against, including test gating, release signing, and reproducible builds.
What you’ll do
- Own and improve CI/CD across the AMP repositories.
- Build the artifact pipeline: build reproducibility, versioning, dependency pinning, artifact promotion, and retention.
- Implement release signing and supply chain integrity for on-robot and SDK artifacts.
- Cut build and test cycle times so engineers get useful feedback in minutes rather than hours.
- Build the release qualification pipeline with the Test team, including hardware-in-the-loop and simulation stages.
- Manage cross-compilation and multi-architecture builds for the robot targets AMP supports.
- Define and maintain the branching, tagging, and release process for a platform shipping on several cadences.
- Instrument pipeline health and flakiness so test reliability is measured.
Job requirements
Experience
- 5 to 8 or more years of professional software or infrastructure engineering experience, with a clear track record owning CI/CD for a shipping product.
- Experience building release pipelines for software that runs on customer premises or on hardware, not only on hosted services.
- Experience improving build and test performance in a large, multi-language repository.
Education
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- Equivalent industry experience with demonstrated ownership of build and release infrastructure may be considered.
Core technical background
- Deep experience with a CI system such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Buildkite, or Jenkins.
- Experience with build systems: CMake, Bazel, colcon, or Cargo.
- Strong containerization skills, including multi-stage builds and cross-architecture images.
- Experience with artifact registries, package publishing, and dependency management across Python, C++, and Rust.
- Working knowledge of code signing, SBOM generation, and supply chain integrity tooling.
- Proficiency in Python and shell, plus enough C++ or Rust to debug a build failure at the source.
Systems mindset
- Measures and manages developer feedback latency.
- Ability to find the real cause of a flaky test.
- Comfortable making trade-offs between build purity and shipping speed.
Collaboration
- Able to set engineering practices across teams without owning their code.
- Clear communicator who can work effectively with remote teams across multiple time zones.
Nice to have
- Experience with ROS 2 or colcon build tooling at scale.
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop test infrastructure.
- Experience with monorepo tooling and remote build caching.
- Familiarity with release requirements for regulated or safety-related software.
- Prior open-source contributions to build or packaging tooling.
