Compliance Engineer

Hybrid San Jose, CA Mid-level Full-time $200,000 – $250,000

We are seeking a Compliance Engineer to own the regulatory, certification, and standards work AMP must clear to ship into industrial customers. The scope covers US spectrum regulation on the robot side, functional safety on the machine side, and security and data requirements on the cloud side.

You will turn those obligations into engineering requirements and evidence produced during development, and define what the team builds, tests, and records.

You will work with the Safety Engineer, the on-robot team, and the platform team, and interface with external test houses and notified bodies.

What you’ll do

  • Own the compliance roadmap for AMP across product safety, spectrum, security, and data protection obligations.
  • Translate applicable standards into testable engineering requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Manage FCC and radio equipment certification for US-localized robot configurations, including test house coordination.
  • Build and maintain the technical file, traceability, and evidence package for each release.
  • Define the change control and impact assessment process so a software change does not silently invalidate a certification.
  • Run gap assessments against machinery safety, EMC, and cybersecurity standards, and drive the resulting work items.
  • Support customer and partner audits, questionnaires, and site acceptance requirements.
  • Track regulatory change across target markets and flag its effect on the roadmap.

Job requirements

Experience

  • 5 to 8 or more years of professional engineering or compliance experience with products that required third-party certification.
  • Direct experience taking a hardware or hardware-plus-software product through certification and shipping it.
  • Experience working with external test houses, certification bodies, or notified bodies.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Equivalent industry experience with a demonstrated certification track record may be considered.

Core technical background

  • Working knowledge of industrial machinery and robot safety standards, including ISO 10218, ISO 3691-4, ANSI R15.08, and IEC 61508 or ISO 13849.
  • Experience with FCC Part 15, EMC testing, and radio equipment approval.
  • Familiarity with product cybersecurity requirements such as IEC 62443 and the EU Cyber Resilience Act.
  • Ability to read software and system architecture documents and identify compliance exposure.
  • Experience building requirements traceability from standard clause to test evidence.
  • Working knowledge of data protection obligations for industrial telemetry, including GDPR.

Systems mindset

  • Ability to distinguish what a standard requires from what is commonly assumed to be required.
  • Comfortable making and documenting defensible engineering judgments where a standard is ambiguous.
  • Builds certification evidence continuously through development.

Collaboration

  • Able to explain compliance constraints to engineers in terms they can act on.
  • Clear communicator who can work effectively with remote teams across multiple time zones, including colleagues in Germany.

Nice to have

  • Experience with autonomous mobile robot or mobile manipulator certification.
  • Experience with UL 3100 or UL 1740.
  • Experience with SOC 2 or ISO 27001 for a cloud platform.
  • Familiarity with CE marking and the EU Machinery Regulation.
  • German language skills.
