Senior Software Engineer (Solutions and Developer Community)

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build AMP reference solutions and run the developer community behind the AMP Developer Program. The role has two halves: write the code that shows what the platform can do, and support the external developers who build on it.

Reference solutions are the primary proof that AMP works, and building them on AMP surfaces the platform gaps that internal development misses.

You will report into the solutions organization and work with product, developer experience, and the core robotics teams.

What you’ll do

  • Build and maintain AMP reference solutions across palletization, kitting, machine tending, and material transport.
  • Build solutions on AMP as an external developer would, and file the gaps you find.
  • Own developer-facing sample code, tutorials, and solution templates.
  • Run the AMP Developer Program community: onboarding, forums, office hours, and issue triage.
  • Build the feedback path from community input into the product roadmap with evidence attached.
  • Support integrators and third-party developers technically during onboarding and early builds.
  • Contribute to SDK documentation and developer experience, and hold the bar on both.
  • Represent the developer community's interests in product and architecture discussions.

Job requirements

Experience

  • 5 to 8 or more years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in robotics or industrial automation.
  • Experience building applications or solutions on top of a platform or SDK, ideally as an external consumer of it.
  • Experience in a developer relations, developer advocacy, or solutions engineering role, or clear evidence of community work.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Equivalent industry experience building and supporting robotics solutions may be considered.

Core technical background

  • Strong Python and C++, with the ability to write example code that other developers will copy.
  • Hands-on experience with ROS or ROS 2, including system integration.
  • Experience with robot application development: pick and place, palletization, machine tending, or material transport.
  • Working knowledge of industrial integration: PLCs, fieldbus, safety interlocks, and equipment interfaces.
  • Experience writing technical documentation and tutorials that people can follow.
  • Experience with API and SDK design critique from a consumer perspective.

Systems mindset

  • Ability to tell a documentation problem from a design problem, and to say which it is.
  • Reports platform gaps directly.
  • Comfortable working across the full stack from robot to cloud.

Collaboration

  • Strong public communicator, in writing and in front of an audience.
  • Patient and credible with external developers.
  • Able to work effectively with remote teams across multiple time zones.

Nice to have

  • Prior open-source maintainership or significant contribution to the ROS ecosystem.
  • Experience running a developer program, hackathon, or technical community at scale.
  • Conference speaking experience, including ROSCon.
  • Experience with system integrators in manufacturing or logistics.
  • Experience with technical content production: video, workshops, or courseware.
